The Upcoming Move – Renewal Fellowship

Psalm 16:5a – Lord, you alone are my inheritance, my cup of blessing. (NLT)

In early May, we will be relocating to a lovely acreage in the Tawatinaw Valley, Alberta, Canada. As I think upon all that such a move will entail, I become more and more aware of what will need to be packed and what will need to find a new home before we leave. For when we move about this earth, we take things with us — a wide variety of possessions: clothes and shoes, beds and bedding, dishes and cutlery, shovels and hoes, wheelbarrows and toys, books and files, and a multitude of much more, including children and pets, and trailers and even livestock. It is a really big deal for most of us to make an earthly move.

So, when I read today's verse, I was reminded about another move — our last move on this earth that takes us to our heavenly home. When we die, we take nothing at all with us to our new home, other than our souls. Yet, when we arrive, we will have everything, for the Lord is our inheritance!

Romans 8:16-17 – The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs — heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may share in his glory. (NIV)

Jesus is our cup of blessing, not only here as we walk and move upon this earth, but forever in heaven when we make that final move to be with Him eternally. In Christ, we have all things. We will need nothing more. He has gone ahead to prepare a place for us — a place where our hearts will overflow with joy and thanksgiving at an inheritance that we cannot now even begin to grasp or understand, for we will have the privilege of never coming to the end of knowing God, Who Himself is never ending.

May we thus, if we have not already done so, trust in Christ as our Lord and Saviour, forgiver of our sins and restorer of our fellowship with God our Father, so that when the time comes for our final move, we shall have no fear, only the peace that passes understanding that all shall be ready for our coming.

Prayer: Thank You, Lord Jesus, that You are our inheritance, You are our cup of blessing. Thank You that we are heirs of God, co-heirs with You to share in Your glory forever. May each of our hearts be prepared and ready for our final move from this earth to the place that You have prepared for us. In Your name, we pray. Amen.

Thank you for your good devotional, such true words. We downsized almost 10 years ago; my goodness was it hard to get rid of some of the things. We are taking things to the Mission Thrift Store on a regular basis again.
A long move for you, we lived in Alberta for some time, loved it!

AMEN, Lynne. I have been thinking a lot about “that final move.” And I have been trying to find new homes for all the things that have previously been deemed important.
I assume that you are in the town of Atlin now. We moved to the country 22 years ago and it is wonderful to look outside and see only God’s creation, to hear the turkeys gobble, etc. Of course, we aren’t real keen on the feral hogs that destroy nearly everything in their paths.

And now you’re moving to Alberta, and not even near a town, or a lake! A total life change it seems.

Congrats on the upcoming move; I loved seeing Atlin posted on my devotional location list. My folks passed through there many years ago, as a “bucket list trek” to/through Western Canada and The Alaska Highway. I took the Greyhound CLOSE to Tawinatow Valley on overnight treks to/from Edmonton from Peace River.
Moving is lots of fun – only had to do it two years ago after getting “renovicted” from a residence of 25 years, into “temporary” quarters for 20 months before this present locale!

Wow! This is a BIG surprise! I cannot imagine how you will accomplish this! I thought you were a fixture in Atlin and that you provided childcare for your “grandies” from time to time.
Wishing you all the best as you tackle this enormous task, which could only be stimulated and achieved under the direction, guidance, and “with the help of God”.
Atlin will miss your presence, but you will leave behind lasting memories of your influence and presence in the community!

I appreciate how clearly you express your faith in order to get to the most important aspects of our faith. It is so true that we don’t have to take anything for our last move, and all will be provided for us in our new home.
I had not looked at it from that perspective. Of course, I have not moved very often so I haven’t really thought about what moving entails. My parents lived in one house so there was no move there. I moved when I got married and only took myself and my clothes. We moved from an apartment to house so not much to move after a few years and then we have remained in this house for over 50 years.
All the best as you prepare for your move with your family. God will be there with you as you prepare, as you move, and as you settle into your new home. Blessings.

I am going to start off by asking you a question, where is Tawatinaw Valley, Alberta.
I have lived in various places in Alberta but have never heard of where you are moving to.
I do pray the move of family, pets, animals, and possessions will go smoothly. I hope you will have great discernment as to what to take and what to dispose of. We always seem to think we have more room in our new place than we do and never seem to get rid of enough before moving, then it takes forever to sort through the excess.
Yes, it is wonderful to remember when we go to our eternal home everything we need will already be there and that is our Lord Jesus Christ.
