Years ago, I owned a pair of shoes that lasted for years and years. The day finally came when I had to do something with them. I hated to do it, too — they were so comfortable. My feet never hurt in them at all. I could be on my feet all day long in them, and it never bothered me. They were worn out, though, and not suitable to wear anymore, even at home in the garden. I had to make a choice to throw them away.
Character defects are usually things in our lives that we are comfortable with, things like pride, fear, anger, people-pleasing, self-centredness, and resentment. These things are hard for us to see in our lives. They usually have a long root. The root keeps producing fruit.
As hard as they are for us to see, we can ask God to show us our character defects. Then when He does, we can confess them and ask Him to remove them from us. And He will. He will transform us. It is a choice as well.
Romans 12:1b,2b – Offer yourselves as a living sacrifice to God, dedicated to His service and pleasing to Him. Let God transform you inwardly by a complete change of your mind. (GNB)
We want to please God with our lives. When the Holy Spirit convicts of us our sin, let's willingly and quickly confess it to Him. Let's offer ourselves to God. He will change us from the inside out.
Prayer: Thank You for Your willingness and power to forgive us our sin. Please show us every area in our lives that isn't pleasing to You. Help us; give us Your grace to look at those areas honestly and to run to You with them. Help us to claim the forgiveness that You so willing grant us. And help us to trust You to change us inwardly. Thank You. Amen.
