(Lyrics) |
1 Thessalonians 5:5a – You are all sons of the light. (NIV)
Being a writer, I have learned that it is vital to have a pen and a pad of paper or some sort of audio recording device readily available to save thoughts and ideas that come to mind. This is especially true at night. Very often in the wee hours of the night, devotional ideas will begin to flow. Sadly, I have lost many thoughts and ideas by thinking, "Oh, I won't forget that. I will jot that down first thing in the morning." When morning comes, I am unable to recall what it was that I was supposed to jot down.
Now, so that I do not lose any more thoughts or ideas that come to me in the middle of the night, I use my iPhone to write it down. Thankfully, the light from the iPhone shining in the bed doesn't awaken my husband, Marcelo.
There is, however, a far more important light that shines in darkness, and that is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ.
John 8:12 – When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." (NIV)
The light that shines in darkness now lives in the redeemed — those of us whose sins are forgiven, having been washed in the precious blood of Jesus Christ. With the Holy Spirit now living in us as our power source, Jesus tells us that we have become light shining in darkness.
Matthew 5:14a,16 – You are the light of the world. Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. (NIV)
As we learn more through the Word of God about how Jesus lived, walked, talked, and responded to others, we can make the choice not only to be hearers of the Word but also doers. Then, Jesus' light in us shines even more brightly to awaken those near us who are spiritually asleep.
If you know Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour, then I am sure that you would agree that it is such a joy to be given the privilege of being God's light to a darkened world.
If you do not know Jesus as your Saviour yet, why delay any longer? You may wish to pray a prayer something like this: "Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and that You are the only One Who can save me. I believe that You died to forgive my sins, that You were buried, and that You rose again the third day. Please save me, Lord. Amen."
Prayer: Father God, thank You for anyone who desired to come out of darkness and into Your light, and prayed the prayer of salvation today. Thank You for allowing us, Your children, to be light shining in darkness to help lead others to Jesus, the light of the world. Amen.

Thank you for your devotional today and a reminder that Jesus is the light. Keep writing.
Thank you, Cheryl. I do the same thing, only I jot my ideas on post-it notes that hopefully end up on my desk. May we always shine for Him.
Dear Cheryl, I prayed the prayer today to be sure once and for all that I am saved. Thank you for putting it in the devotional.
Thank you, Cheryl, for today’s devotional. You are not alone in thinking you will remember something in the morning!!!

Hi Cheryl, your devotion today got down to the truth, even offering an opportunity to pray the sinner’s prayer. Keep sharing your heart as we are all in need of His light that we might be children of light.
Good afternoon Cheryl,
Thank you for sharing this because happens to me also. Thankful how God uses us to show His light and love. How I pray more people want the light.
God bless.
Thanks, Cheryl, for these very reassuring words today. Yes, when we ask Jesus into our lives and follow His words and ways, our life becomes much brighter and joyful. We need be so thankful that He is ever ready to forgive us for any wrongs and receive us into His love and care. Blessings as you deliver these writings and that you take the extra effort to jot down thoughts that come to you for future writings.
Good morning, Cheryl,
I am glad that you figured out how to remember your thoughts and ideas that you get in the middle of the night and lots of us benefit from them. I used to work for a Professor of Chemistry who would get patent ideas in the night. He bought a space pen so he could write upside down in the night so he would remember the idea. He had lots of good patents and loved gadgets. He was gone long before cell phones could do all the things they can do now.
Thank you for sharing such and uplifting and encouraging devotional reminding us as we are the “light shining in darkness” and we have been given a privilege. Blessings.
