The Silent Witness

Isaiah 43:10 – "You are My witnesses," says the Lord, "and My servant whom I have chosen." (AMP)

We can all look back upon our lives, and remember situations when it was not the right time to say even a few words of witness regarding the Gospel of love. I remember the time when, for some inexplicable reason, the telephone wire simply become disconnected and needed repairing. I got in touch with the telephone company, and they sent a young repairman to hook up the telephone. On the completion of his work, he used my telephone, and, on the tiny telephone table, I had placed an inexpensive little plaque with the words, "Only one life, 'twill soon be past — only what's done for Christ will last." I saw him staring at it very thoughtfully. Had this little verse brought memories to the surface, which he thought were buried forever? I did not dare break the silence. Then he said, "Your phone is now in working order," and quickly vacated the apartment.

Today we live in an age when our employment can be terminated at any time. To many, this is an excuse to give less than their best to their employer. But as Christians, regardless of all the circumstances under which we work, we must take on the attitude as suggested in Colossians 3:23: "Whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not unto men." (KJV) This gives our work a permanence! We silently live out our Christianity in our place of business by our honest work ethic; we are unaware that others also are silently watching us to see what really makes a Christian "tick". May we always remember that we are speaking loudly for our Saviour by our very actions.

Prayer: Dear heavenly Father, help us to remember that our lives are often the only Bible which many will read. Help us to be faithful in our actions as well as in our speech. We thank you for the privilege of witnessing for You. We come into Your presence through the authority of Your Son, Christ Jesus. Amen.
