Romans 2:14-15 – Even Gentiles, who do not have God's written law, show that they know his law when they instinctively obey it, even without having heard it. They demonstrate that God's law is written in their hearts, for their own conscience and thoughts either accuse them or tell them they are doing right. (NLT)
Every human being on the face of the earth has a conscience. When God breathed into mankind, He sent a deposit of His Spirit into every person. That divine deposit of God in us is our conscience. But just like our physical senses, some are more sensitive than others.
Unbelievers, because of their separation from God and their lifestyle of sin, have destroyed their consciences to a degree that it becomes almost impossible for them to receive the promptings of the Holy Spirit. This is why unbelievers can commit certain sins and not feel badly about them. Their consciences permit them to act that way, but it doesn't mean that it's okay. It is only permission granted by a weak or dead conscience.
As believers, if we come to a point where we no longer feel bad about what the Bible condemns, we are playing in dangerous territory. What this means is that our conscience is beginning to permit us, but it doesn't mean that God's standards have changed. Whenever we get to this point, it is proof that we have strayed very far away from Christ. We must examine ourselves sincerely to ensure that we are where God wants us to be spiritually.
Prayer: Dear Father, please help us to live lives that are pleasing to You every day. Give us a supernatural consciousness of Your will and Your ways. Amen.

I always read in the book of Ephesians that God sends a deposit of his spirit into us but felt it was at the time of acceptance.
Today’s lesson says it was at creation. It ties up with the work of our conscience.

Dear Chubie,
Very interesting perspective on that our conscience can help us figure out we might be straying from God because we don’t strongly feel bad when we are doing something that God’s law does not approve of. It is important for us to be aware when we are not following God’s guidance in our lives. It is important for us to be close to God and talk to Him and listen to Him. Reading His Word helps us to grow in understanding.
