At the tender age of seven years, I was left behind with my grandmother when my mother emigrated overseas. I felt unprotected, and the danger of being harmed by evil people was never far from me. Though no harm came to me, I became distrustful, fearful, and lost, without my mother's presence and protection. The fear of being abandoned was always with me, and my feelings of insecurity and vulnerability stayed with me for a long time. Fortunately, after accepting Jesus into my life, I found comfort in knowing that Jesus loved me and that He would never leave me or forsake me. I rejoined my mother before my thirteenth birthday, and by God's grace and mercy, I have had a beautiful, fulfilling life.

James 4:7 – Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (NIV)

Satan is the evil one who tempted me to became distrustful and fearful. He is the soul destroyer; whenever he is given the opportunity, he will even take believers in Christ Jesus with him into the valley of darkness. The Word of God is our protection:

Psalm 23:4 – Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. (NIV)

The evil one often slips in when we are at our weakest point. But the Lord Jesus Christ, our Protector and Saviour, is on duty full-time. Whatever trials we face, we have nothing to fear from Satan if we know the Lord Jesus Christ. Believing in our heavenly Father and living by His Word are crucial.

Ephesians 6:10-11 – Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. (NIV)

Satan, the evil one, must not be allowed to gain a foothold in our lives because he will create havoc in them. We must put on the armour of God every single day.

1 Peter 5:8-9 – Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings. (NIV)

What are you doing to protect yourself from the evil one?

Prayer: Our Father in heaven, we praise Your holy name. Help us to stay strong in our faith. Keep us safe from the evil one by helping us to stay alert. Thank You, Holy Spirit, for always interceding for each of us when we call upon the holy name of Jesus. Amen.
