Psalm 91:11 – For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. (NIV)

Hebrews 1:14 – Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation? (NIV)

Paige was not alone on the 18th day of December, 1987, eight days before Christmas. This was the day when the angel of the Lord arrived unseen at Paige's bedside.

Paige suffered a severe neck injury at home, after falling and fracturing her C4 and C5 vertebrae. At the hospital, she was on a stretcher outside the nurses' station when she heard the doctor, who had just left her bedside, giving instructions on the phone about a woman with a broken neck. Paige asked herself, "Wasn't that the same voice who instructed me only moments ago not to move a muscle unless he told me to?" Paige immediately said to God, "The doctor is talking about me, isn't he?" She received her answer instantly. The angel of the Lord sent what seemed like a healing wave of lightning through her body, from the soles of her feet to the top of her head, and she became calm and still from that moment on. She felt no fear whatsoever, since the angel of the Lord was presiding over this situation.

On the last day of December, Paige underwent a very complicated neck fusion surgery. Her nervous family had been told of the possible complications and the possibility of Paige never being able to walk again. Frantic prayer requests were sent out far and wide. Her family, her pastor, and all who had been asked to pray responded with prayer.

Psalm 118:24 – This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. (NIV)

On the morning of January 1, 1988, Paige came through her surgery successfully. Opening her eyes, she looked into the smiling eyes of her daughter, Shevon, and she knew at that moment that all was well. Today, by the grace of God, Paige is alive and well, walking and counting her steps every day. The angel of the Lord our God was there with her at the hospital and throughout her recovery.

Give to the winds thy fears – by John Wesley

Give to the winds thy fears;
Hope and be undismayed;
God hears thy sighs and counts thy tears;
God shall lift up thy head.

Through waves and clouds and storms
He gently clears thy way;
Wait thou His time; so shall this night
Soon end in joyous day.

Leave to His sovereign sway
To choose and to command:
So shalt thou, wondering, own His way,
How wise, how strong His hand!

Let us in life, in death,
Thy steadfast truth declare,
And publish with our latest breath
Thy love and guardian care.

Think about the last time a family member or a friend suffered a serious illness. Did you turn it over to God? How did you feel after turning it over to Him?

Prayer: Almighty God, our heavenly Father, we thank You for Your grace and Your mercy. We thank You for being present in our lives every single second of the day, especially during our darkest moments. We thank You for Your amazing grace and love. We give You the praise and the glory. Amen.
