John 14:26 – But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. (NIV)

I often wonder, and even worry somewhat, that as my grandchildren grow older, they will forget the things that they are learning about God, for I know that I will not always be here to remind them of the love of Jesus.

But then the other day, God gave me a lesson that has made me put my worry aside and continue to trust in Him in regard to their spiritual well-being.

Three-year-old Lindy wanted to ride her tiny two-wheeler bike with the training wheels on it. I helped her to hop on, and then, Ade, her five-year-old sister, wanted to take over, so I stepped out of the way.

Ade got behind Lindy and held onto the back of the bike seat with one hand and Lindy's upper arm with her other hand. Then, she began mimicking the very words that I always used with her when she was first learning to ride. "Don't worry, Lindy, I've got you, and I won't let you fall. Now pedal."

It has been a couple of years since I first taught Ade to ride her bike, and yet, those words of comfort and security were couched solidly and firmly in her memory, to be brought forth as the need arose in regard to Lindy and her attempts at biking.

Likewise, this is part of the Holy Spirit's job in our life. He will not only teach us all things from God, but He will remind us of what we have heard and learned, that we may continue to ride our bike of life safely and wisely. We need not worry that our teachings concerning the love of God and the goodness of Christ will fade away and be as naught in our children and grandchildren's lives. For the Holy Spirit is able to resurrect them within their memories and lives at just the right time and in the right way, just as He does for you and me.

Prayer: Father God, thank You for the Holy Spirit, Who is able to teach us and remind us of everything that we have learned from and know about Jesus. May our hearts and minds be open to His still, quiet voice, as we pedal our way through life, seeking to glorify You. In Christ's name, we pray. Amen.
