I remember how, on more than one occasion, my junior high home economics teacher told our class, "A woman spends half her life wondering who she will marry, and the other half wondering what to feed him for dinner."

Whether or not the quotation was hers or where she got it from, I do not know, but it has stuck with me for over six decades. I also remember a little poem about this:

Thank God for dirty dishes;
They have a tale to tell.
While others may go hungry,
We're eating very well.
With home, health, and happiness,
I shouldn't want to fuss;
By the stack of evidence,
God's been very good to us.
       – Mary Arlis Stuber

Although some people may regard cooking and washing dishes as drudgery, the fact that Jesus did cooking just thrills my heart so much!

John 21:9,12-13 – Then, as soon as [the disciples] had come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid on it, and bread. Jesus said to them, "Come and eat breakfast." Yet none of the disciples dared ask Him, "Who are You?" — knowing that it was the Lord. Jesus then came and took the bread and gave it to them, and likewise the fish. (NKJV)

Jesus, the King of kings, the Lord of lords, the Great I AM, the Alpha and the Omega, Jesus, the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world — Jesus was cooking! God Almighty cooking!

It is almost unheard of for an earthly king to cook for himself, let alone to serve others, but Jesus, the King of kings, not only cooked for the disciples, but also personally served them!

Cooking has taken on a whole new meaning and delight for me! Sure, I've read and even memorized "Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." (1 Corinthians 10:31 NKJV) But now, it has taken root and helped me — and hopefully, you — to see daily meal preparation in a whole new way! Thank You, Jesus!

Perhaps, this will also make meal consumers more appreciative!

Prayer: Lord Jesus, may we, Your children, take joy in Your Word and in Your example, for You said of Yourself that "the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." (Matthew 20:28 NKJV) "Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen." (1 Timothy 1:17 NKJV)
