Psalm 121 – I lift up my eyes to the hills — from where will my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time on and for evermore. (NRSV)

It was a beautiful spring afternoon in early May when our Protector and Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, came along with my friend and I for a walk. Of course, we were unaware of His presence, but God watches over us 24/7.

Frances, my friend of over four decades, and I met up for lunch, with plans to take a walk in the city and catch up on life. Some time later, we headed to the park close by. We saw a vacant bench underneath a beautiful old maple tree with fresh, young, green leaves. This spot offered protection from the intense afternoon sunlight on that day. The bench was situated on a slight slope, and the view of the landscape was incredible.

Unbeknownst to us, the Lord Jesus was already seated on the bench before we showed up. Our God sees everything. We cannot hide from Him, and He reads our minds.

After about half an hour, Frances said, "Yvonne, I think it's time to go." I looked at her and said, "Okay, let's!"

We got up, took about four steps, and behind us, we heard a loud crash. We both spun around at the same time, and there on the bench where we had been sitting, only seconds before, were large chunks of debris, with much larger pieces of branches on the ground, right in front of the bench. We looked at each other in astonishment. We were speechless. Passersby and other folks in the park rushed forward, expressing how lucky we were to have gotten up from the bench when we did. Without the shadow of a doubt, we knew that God, the Miracle Worker, was there at approximately 2:44 p.m. on that beautiful, sunny afternoon, watching over us. Do I believe in miracles? Absolutely! Miracles happen to people every single day. It happened to us.

Psalm 139:2a,4 – You know when I sit down and when I rise up. Even before a word is on my tongue, O Lord, you know it completely. (NRSV)

When your senses are sending signals and subtle alarm bells are telling you to do something immediately, trust it! Do not hesitate, for God could be speaking to you!

Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, we thank You for watching over each of us every day. We are grateful for Your presence in our lives and for Your protection. We thank You, Father God, and give You the praise and the glory, in the name of Jesus. Amen.
