John 8:12 – Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life." (NKJV)

Many people tend to divide their lives up into compartments, even if they may not realize that they are doing it that way. Right now, I have a few compartments in my life. I am dealing with the passing of my mom, working full time, being a wife, and being a mother.

Having compartments in life is not necessarily a bad thing — they allow us to handle difficult situations, to learn how to deal with them, and to work through the healing process.

Years ago, I walked past a house that had many windows. It seemed like every light was on in every room. The houses on each side of it were not as bright. I have this visual image in my head, and from time to time, the picture comes back to me. I believe that God uses the picture of the house with many lights as His way of reminding me not to shut Him out of the compartments of my life. Right now, not all the lights are on in my house full of compartments. I believe that God wants to shine His light in all the compartments of our lives. When we shut Him out of some places, or turn off the lights, we allow the darkness in.

2 Samuel 22:29 – For You are my lamp, O Lord; The Lord shall enlighten my darkness. (NKJV)

I believe that the key to successful living is to allow God's light, love, and healing into all the places of our lives.

What about you? Do you need to let His light back into those circumstances and hurts of life?

Prayer: Thank You, Jesus, that You are the light of the world. Help us daily to let Your light shine into all the areas of our lives. Equip us each day to keep the darkness out. Help us also to be a light to the people in this world who are in darkness. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
