In my opinion, whoever invented the roof rake deserves not only all the money that they have made through this invention, but a medal as well. The amount of snow that we have experienced this winter has been phenomenal. Keeping ahead of it has been back-breaking. But keep ahead of it we did, and much of that has been due to the roof rake.

For those of you who dwell below the snow line, a roof rake has a slightly curved plastic head about twenty inches wide and six inches deep, which is attached to a long, hollow, metal pole, which in turn has two more metal poles which can be snapped on to extend the length of the rake's reach. This means that when the rake is extended to its full length, even a five-foot-tall person is able to reach up and pull heavy piles of snow off a roof in order to prevent it from collapsing under the extreme weight. How thankful I am that that was exactly what I have been able to do this winter, for it not only greatly benefited my roof, but it also benefited me. For as I was pulling all that snow off, I was also reminded of God's grace that He constantly extends to me — grace that allows me to reach new heights in the various situations of life that we all experience from time to time.

• He extends His grace to me in illness, that I may persevere and still be His light amidst it.
• He extends His grace amidst conflict, helping me to keep my mouth shut and my thoughts under control when I would really like to say hurtful and unkind things in return to those who are acting in unkind ways toward me.
• He extends His grace in regard to granting more wisdom and guidance when challenging decisions must be made.

The list goes on and on, just as His grace goes on and on amidst any and all situations which may come our way.

Psalm 18:31-33 – For who is God besides the Lord? And who is the Rock except our God? It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he enables me to stand on the heights. (NIV)

These are things that He, and He alone, is able to do for every single one of us who comes to Him, asking in humility and faith.

So today, if you need an extension of God's grace in your life, it's there for the asking. So, get to it, and allow Him to enable you to stand upon the heights.

Prayer: Father God, thank You that there is none beside You. You, and You alone, are our Rock, our strength, our grace amidst any and all situations in this life. May we always be ready to acknowledge our need of Your help, that we may be lifted up by Your grace to stand upon the heights. In Christ's name, we pray. Amen.
