Hebrews 13:6 – So we say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?" (NIV)

One is three-and-a-half, the other one is one-and-a-half, and they certainly know how to get themselves into a jam. Every day, I hear those little voices calling out, "Grammy, Grammy, come help." One has climbed from the floor to the chair, to the table, to the window ledge, and now can't get back down. The other one has used the toilet and now can't get her tights pulled back up properly, as they are all twisted. Or perhaps they have decided to upend every toy bag and box in the play area and are now totally overwhelmed with the pick-up job ahead. Their list of "I need help, Grammy" is endless.

Sometimes, I drop what I am doing and run to the "I need help" situation. Other times, I holler that I am coming. Still other times, I tell them, "You got yourself into this jam. Now you need to think about how to get yourself out of it." Whatever the case, though, I am always available as their helper, and they are both quite confident of that — a fact that allows them to feel safe even amidst a jam.

Likewise, as God's children, we, too, can rest assured that God is always with us to help us as we need it. Sometimes, He swiftly comes to our aid. Other times, He makes us wait awhile. And there are still other times when, though He is standing by overseeing our safety, He wants us to figure it out for ourselves.

What a wonderful truth — one for which each of us can be thankful, and one which we can tightly embrace, close to our hearts.

Today, if you find yourself in a jam — be it of your own making or someone else's — rest easy. Call out to the Lord for His help and know, with confidence, that He is coming, one way or another.

Prayer: Lord God, we thank You so much that we can say with confidence, "You are my helper; I will not be afraid, no matter what jam I may find myself to be in." In Christ's name, we pray. Amen.
