Psalm 33:8 – Let all the earth fear the Lord: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. (KJV)

God knows and created all things, so there are no unchartered waters for Him. In Kauai during 1991, my husband and I learned to use snorkels. It was our first time on a reef, and we paddled along to the shallow reef's edge while watching the colourful fish. With our fins pressing against the reef in the shallows, we peered over the edge with awe at the darkest of blue water in the bottomless sea. The contrast between the shallows and the depths took our breath away. The wonder of God's intricacies gripped us.

Similarly, when we move from being an unbeliever to being a believer, we cross a bridge from the physical realm into the mysteries of God's spiritual kingdom. We face more unknowns. Initially, in the shallows, we want to know about concepts easily understood, but we hesitate when it comes to maturing in those things that require us to learn that God's will is different from ours.

We realize now that in the beginnings of our faith, we gingerly dabble our toes in the shallow water of God's Word with a budding respect for Him. As we gradually go deeper into the profound spiritual waters, our understanding of His magnificence and love for us grows, as our love and respect for Him deepen.

We each journey with God as we enthusiastically push from our shallow reef of knowledge into His fascinating depths. With each encounter, covered by His Word and indwelt with His Holy Spirit, we grow spiritually, and our faith increases. As we draw nearer to our Lord, we are no longer stunned into disbelief by who He is, but embrace the immensity of His character.

Have you begun to plumb the depths of our Lord and Saviour? It is a remarkable journey at every depth that we can reach.

Prayer: Dear Father, we are wonderstruck as we begin to enjoy Your depths of richness and blessing. Praise Your holy name! Amen.
