Matthew 6:19-20 – Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal. (KJV)

1 Corinthians 15:44 – It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. (KJV)

We were very poor, and the J.C. Penney store carried good quality clothing. Mamma would put them on layaway until they were paid for. What a happy day it was when she brought the clothing home for us to wear for school. We didn't have to worry about moths destroying our clothing because we outgrew it so fast that moths didn't have time to make their cocoons. Thieves wouldn't break in to steal them because they probably wouldn't fit anyway.

Jesus sacrificed His life for our salvation and purchased a spiritual body for each believer. It wasn't put on layaway, but it is reserved, or laid up in heaven for us to receive. Now that aches and pains are knocking at my bones and my strength is ebbing away, I think about the glorified body that resembles Jesus. Our spiritual body, designed for heaven, will feel no pain and is forever.

God offers us a treasured relationship with Him through Jesus Christ our Saviour. We nurture it as we serve others with the energy and grace that He gives us to use our bodies, minds, and souls. We joyfully serve His commands while we store spiritual treasures in heaven, safe from theft and corruption. As believers, we wait for the heavenly treasure, like we waited with great anticipation and excitement for our clothing to be picked up from the J.C. Penney layaway. Our spiritual treasure cannot be damaged or stolen. When Christ comes again, we will receive our new body marked, "Paid in full at Calvary."

Prayer: Dear Father, thank You for allowing us to store in heaven sweet spiritual treasure that can't be destroyed. Amen.
