Do a favour for a person, and the world will reward you with a flat tire — or so it seems! The last few flat tires have had the same scenario: call the tow truck for a ride home, just after I had done a favour for a friend. My granddaughter says that my outlook on doing a kindness seems as if I am making a chore out of it.

This time, the tow truck driver wanted to know how I knew that the tire was flat. "Was it squishy or something?" No, I knew that it was flat because there was a kindness involved. This time it was visiting a friend's mother-in-law in elder care.

At our age, we know what to expect from the world — certainly, nothing rewarding. As Christians though, kindness is in our blood. We will do it again and again and again, not because of a financial reward — it's going to cost to fix this flat tire. Going out of my way to make a person's day will cost me monetarily, but the reward is on the inside. Sharing our time with others is the perfect gift. The inside-heart benefits are a design from the Lord, His way of saying, "Good job!"

Every day, we walk with the possibility of death, the gift of the world.

Psalm 23:4a – Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil. (KJV)

That is all that we need to know.

Prayer: Our Father, who is in heaven, holy is Your name. We have come to know You as a rewarder of our souls. You have broken the bondage of death, and we fear nothing. Thank You for Your grand design to reward our souls when the world so desperately tries to pull us down. Your name has blessed our lives. Amen.
