One thing is certain: adversity does not play favourites. There comes a time in each of our lives when we must choose to overcome the inevitable challenges that we will surely encounter on life's journey.

Often when we are faced with the sorrow and grief of losing someone, there is the tendency to blame God and want to turn away from Him, thinking that He doesn't know or care how we feel. It is so easy to forget how God Himself must have felt when He lost His only begotten Son as a sacrifice for our sins, because of His great love for us!

John 3:16 – For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (KJV)

When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to worship the golden image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up, the king threated to throw them into the fiery furnace. They replied:

Daniel 3:17-18 – If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up. (NIV)

In other words, "Even if God doesn't deliver us, He's still God, and we will continue to serve Him and Him alone."

Though we face catastrophes, the loss of loved ones, hurts, disappointments, setbacks, and sadness in life, may we never estrange ourselves from the love of Almighty God. To move away from God or to draw closer to Him will define the ultimate success of each of our lives.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please minister to the hearts of hurting people everywhere. May they cling to You ever so tightly, though the way be dark and the questions and uncertainties seemingly insurmountable. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
