Ezekiel 34:16a – I will seek the lost, and I will bring back the strayed, and I will bind up the injured, and I will strengthen the weak. (ESV)

As much as I love God — and believe me, I really do love Him — it seems that there are times when I feel so far from Him. Now if I'm going to honest — and that I must be — the feelings of isolation usually start with a decline in my Bible reading. Then like a domino effect, my prayer, praise, and worship start to wane. Thankfully, it is not long before I begin to feel that I just can't go another day without the Lord. I find myself like the maiden asking desperately, "Have you seen the one my heart loves?" (Song of Solomon 3:3b NIV)

The good news is that although this may not be the first time this kind of thing has happened — and sadly, might not be the last — by God's grace, I am always rescued and restored, and I am able once again to have renewed zeal and vigour in our relationship.

How about you? Do you often find yourself feeling like this? Are you in that predicament right now? If so, my prayer for you, as well as for me, would be that we not rely so heavily on our feelings, but rely on the Word of God, for He has loved us with an everlasting love.

This poem was written during one of my dry spells. I pray that it will be an encouragement to you.

His Poor Little Pitiful Lamb

It's not the first time I've felt like this
And I can't promise it will be the last
But I'm sinking, Lord, please help me
I'm going down for the third time fast

I know just how it started
With neglect for Your Word and prayer
And now I feel so far from You
I can't see or hear You anywhere

My heart cries out, Lord, help me!
Though I've wandered, He knows where I am
And He reaches down to pick me up
His poor little pitiful lamb

Perhaps you are feeling so lonely
You've strayed and can't find your way home
And you think that God doesn't love you
That He's left you to make it all alone

But deep in your heart you are crying
Lord, help me! is your silent prayer
If you reach out your hand, believing in faith
You'll find that He's right there

Let your heart cry out, Lord, help me!
Though I've wandered You know where I am
And He'll reach right down to pick you up
His poor little pitiful lamb

Prayer: We pray today, Lord, for those of us who are in a dry place, that our hunger for You would return, and that Bible reading, prayer, praise, and worship would follow suit. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
