Deuteronomy 31:8 – The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. (NIV)

Travelling is not my thing. I find it extremely stressful and rather scary, yet every once in a while, I am enticed into a little jaunt here or there. During one such short foray this past summer, God continued to teach me to trust in Him, even amidst my comings and goings from home.

As my friend and I embarked on our trip, the first leg of the journey to the airport at Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, progressed well. We were booked to fly on to Vancouver Island, but we couldn't locate the smaller Terminal South, out of which we were to be flying. As we were walking along the sidewalk wondering what to do next, a young woman came walking toward us. She knew where we needed to go and gave us the correct directions.

Once we had arrived at that terminal, we checked in and sat down waiting for our flight to be called. The call never came. A number of hours later, we had a decision to make. If we were to get to our destination that night, it was imperative to leave immediately in order to catch a bus to the ferry terminal, or else we had to call a taxicab, which would have been very expensive. As we were standing there, along with many other stranded passengers, a gentleman looked directly at me and said, "Do you have a car?" I said "No." He said, "I do, and I have room for three passengers." I immediately said, "My friend and I are coming with you," along with another lady to whom we had been talking, who was also going to the Island.

We made it to the ferry in the nick of time, but then, we had to figure out how we were going to get to our destination on the Island, as it was quite a distance from where the ferry docked. It was then that the lady who had hitched a ride with us said, "My husband is driving out to the terminal to pick me up, and we have to go right by the town you need to go to. You can ride with us."

On our homeward trip, the seaplane company that we were booked on could not guarantee that they would be flying that morning due to heavy smoke. We decided to return to the mainland by ferry, which also meant having to catch the Blue Bus once we arrived in Vancouver and then the Canada Line to the airport. A frequent rider got us to the right bus stop, but once we arrived at the City Centre SkyTrain Station, we didn't know how to buy a ticket or how to get to the Canada Line. As we were standing discussing what to do next, a lady simply walked over to us and asked if she could help us. She then proceeded to do just that. We asked her if she worked there, but she said, "No, I just saw you standing here and thought you needed help."

Arriving safely home later that day, I marvelled at God's provision throughout our journey. Indeed, He had gone before us, both going and coming, and provided our every need, for which I was truly thankful.

Today, remember that whatever you are doing or wherever you are going, God goes with you. So, sit back, trust in Him, and learn to enjoy the ride.

Prayer: Father God, thank You that we can count on Your presence with us and Your provision for us at all times. Remind us to choose to claim this truth and the peace and enjoyment that comes with it. In Christ's name, we pray. Amen.
