On Valentine's Day, like many others, I will wear something red. For a special date, a woman might wear that little black dress and pearls, or other "glad rags" (party clothes). In this world, fashions come and go. Sadly, modesty (humility) is often lacking. Today, it might be fashionable to wear retro, but born again in Christ, our old clothes, like rags, become obsolete. We are to wear love.

Colossians 3:14 – Regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It's your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it. (MSG)

The Bible tells us that we are the light of the world and that we should let our light shine before others. A light is of no use when it is hidden. The expression to wear your heart on your sleeve means that our love is to be out in the open for everyone to see. When we put on something red this Valentine's Day, let us also remember to show our love in actions and words.

It is not just on Valentine's Day that we are to make a special effort. We should allow every detail of our lives to be done in the name of Jesus, who is our Master and our true love.

Colossians 3:12,15a – Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts. (NIV)

Paul is describing the fruit of the Spirit.

2 Corinthians 5:17 – If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! (NIV)

We have a new wardrobe — not Ralph Lauren or Calvin Klein, but designed by our Creator for our life of love.

Colossians 3:9-10 – You're done with that old life. It's like a filthy set of ill-fitting clothes you've stripped off and put in the fire. Now you're dressed in a new wardrobe. Every item of your new way of life is custom-made by the Creator, with his label on it. All the old fashions are now obsolete. (MSG)

Let us aim to be as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband when Christ returns!

Prayer: Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, may Your peace dwell within us, and may we honour You in everything we do. You are our true love. Amen.
