Psalm 119:103 – How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth! (KJV)

Nostalgic 1940s twelve-pack gift books of Life Savers® and tins of hard Christmas candy in every colour of the rainbow were available at the corner pharmacy. There was candy wrapped in personalized Scripture, boldly printed for us to remember the sweetness of Jesus. Phrases like "For God so loved the world" and "The sweetest name I know" remind us of Jesus, who in His awesome humanity and holiness is the sweetest story ever told.

A sister had given her brother an oval, old-fashioned Christmas tin of mint candy that read, "Jesus is the sweetest name I know". Now, we know according to Scripture that God's Word is sweeter than honey to the mouth, and Jesus is the Word of God, so Jesus is the sweetest name we know. When I consider that He is my precious, sweet life Saviour, everything else seems drab and tasteless in comparison. He brings us rainbows of flavours and vivid colours of life to weave throughout our experience and service of love to Him.

Any time you want to see and taste the sweetness of Jesus, be still and take in the delightful flavour and vivid colour of His majestic and glorious character that permeates the life of a believer. When you look at the rainbow of colour and flavour in hard Christmas candies and look at those candy containers bearing Scripture, remember Jesus. Read the Bible. Be still before God and savour the Saviour. To believers, Jesus is indeed the sweetest story ever told. We know that the taste of His words and the flavours of His sweetness are not momentary, as in candy, but His essence of sweetness continues forever.

Prayer: Dear Father, thank You for giving us the holy nectar of heaven: our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, whose taste is sweeter than honey. Amen.
