Revelation 21:4 – And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. (KJV)

Several years ago, one of the members of a church we attended lost her son to a drive-by shooting. As she grieved, and as we all did, I prayed and asked God how I might be used to be a comfort to her, and the following story was dropped into my heart.

An uncontrollable sob breaks the silence of the night, as a mother stands in the doorway of what used to be her dear son's room. He has been taken home to be with the Lord for quite awhile now, but pain, sorrow, emptiness, and grief still manage to find their way into her heart.

She puts her hand to her mouth to muffle the sound of her cries. The tears are hot as they pour down her cheeks. Her cries are muffled, for she knows that too many times she has found herself in this room. She knows that she can't keep mourning like this, but somehow, it is so much easier said than done.

Time steals by, and the precious mother dries her eyes, stands up tall, and tiptoes back into her bedroom. No one is aware of the fact that she has silently wept for the past half hour or so, except for one … the All-Knowing One. He has seen every tear, and He knows all too well the heartfelt sorrow of losing His Son, for you see, for the past half hour or so, He, too, has wept.

He, too, has been filled with a deep sense of sorrow. The pain and grief the precious mom feels is only a fraction of what our God in heaven feels for those He loves. His heart is torn and broken, and a nail-scarred hand brushes away the tears from His cheeks. He weeps and whispers to the precious mother's heart:

"My beloved, one day these nail-scarred hands will wipe away all the tears from your eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away. And that's … a promise from Me!"

Prayer: Heavenly Father, what a wonderful comforter You are. We do not know what we would do without You! Thank You. Amen.
