Proverbs 18:10 – The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe. (ESV)

Psalm 46:1,7 – God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. (ESV)

Many of us are familiar with today's verses, or if not, then the sentiment that they convey, namely, that God looks after His own, who are in His kingdom. In times of trouble, we can spiritually and mentally run into His presence and know that we are safe, because His Word says so.

How have I achieved this? Simple! All I have to do is say, "In the name of Jesus, God, please h-e-e-e-l-p!" In the urgency of the moment, a simple "Help!" is sufficient. I know that I have done it and have known God to overcome, sometimes instantly. There have been instances of deliverance from evil when I woke up in the presence of a spirit, deliverance from fear and anxiety when I was oppressed by managers, and deliverance from sickness when I was in hospital. It is simple, but not always easy to follow through on my part, especially when my plans for the way forward have been derailed by God.

As a result, I would like to think that most of my wilfulness has been kicked out of me by now. Reality says, sadly, "No", but I hope that I am a little wiser, and a little less sneaky at holding out on God in some areas!

The truth is that I have learnt that God hears; He knows; He sees; He understands. He does not turn His back on us, even when, in truth, we have been everywhere but in His presence before the throne. He will be with us through the storm because He is always faithful to His loved ones. He knows our end from the beginning.

No matter where we are before God today, let us grab with both hands the gift of love found in Jesus. Love overcomes a multitude of sins. That is why Jesus came, so that we could run to Him and say:

"Abba, Father, help!"

Prayer: Lord, we rejoice that wherever we have been, regardless of our meanderings, today, You are waiting for us to put the world down and to come before Your throne to make our confessions, intercessions, and petitions. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer, in the name of Jesus. Amen.
