John 8:12 – When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." (NIV)

The days of winter seem to hold the darkest hours of the year. Many people leave home for their workplaces in the dark and also return in the dark. In addition, winter mornings are in a deep-freeze.

I also think of a large company of spiritually needy ones who travel without Jesus in the dark night of the soul. Just as on a deep-freeze winter morning, their hearts are frozen to a block of ice with respect to Jesus as their Saviour. There is a chance that the ice will melt, waking them to the greatest joy in life because of Jesus. It will happen when they are convicted of sin, convinced of saving grace, and converted from all old to all new in all things! He who has Christ has all things. He who has not Christ has nothing.

So I pray, "Send me, Lord, again. Let me be the messenger for someone whose heart already is opening to You, so that the blindest eyes are opening, the mutest ears are listening to Your voice, and even the most unlikely ones will receive the light from God!"

I am never sure what a day has in store. "Be ready and aware!" I tell myself, literally depending on God's help for my day. I remember Bible verses with promises and keep reminding myself that Jesus said that He will be with me — and with all His own.

On one such morning just the other day, I decided to print more tracts, "Four things God wants you to know." Walking downtown, I handed out some. One young man's response stood out from the others — it was as if he had received the best words for his day!

Such a person is happy to wake up into salvation in Jesus, Who took upon Himself our failures and mistakes, carrying them all to the cross. He died to make the way for us to be made sinless, faultless, and righteous before God the Father because of His blood offered as a sacrifice of atonement. "For the Son of Man came to seek and save what was lost" (Luke 19:10 NIV).

Jesus rose from the grave and lives to keep His promises to all who receive Him as Lord and God! Our natural ears need a makeover to listen and hear the words of Jesus: "I am the light of the world."

Prayer: Father God, we thank You for giving us spiritual eyes and ears to see and listen to Your Word in all things. May the deep-freeze be melted from many a heart to spiritual renewal through Your Son, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Increase our faith to the fullest. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen!
