Psalm 89:27 – Indeed, I myself made him the firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth. (ISV)

Luke 1:32 – He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David. (KJV)

Reflecting on today's Scriptures, I thought about my early upbringing in the Roman Catholic Church. I was taught to genuflect or bow the knee as a sign of reverence, as if Christ were physically present inside the sanctuary. Although this practice had become ritual, still, it gave me the sense of being in the presence of His royal Majesty, the King.

Historically, the act of bowing before any ruler demonstrated not only respect but submission. Warriors or citizens remained kneeling with their heads bowed and necks exposed until told to rise. This humble posture signified that the people acknowledged the king's authority and had placed their trust in his justice.

So how much more should we honour Jesus, trusting in His divine rule! No earthly monarch can compare to the Babe Who was born in Bethlehem so many years ago. His is the name above every name; He alone is our righteous Saviour and Judge — the Son of the Highest.

Consider the words of the prophet Isaiah when he saw the King of glory, high and lifted up in His holy temple:

Isaiah 6:5 – "Woe to me!" I cried. "I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty." (NIV)

Therefore, may we approach the Lord with love and respect, remembering Who He is, as well as all that He has done for us. Let us ask ourselves how we may serve the King. First, let us personally seek His forgiveness, and then submit to doing His will for the sake of God's kingdom.

Prayer: Sovereign Lord, we acknowledge that You are King of the universe and King of our lives. All glory, praise, and honour are Yours, Almighty God, for You alone are the world's salvation. Let Your light shine upon those who do not know You this Christmas season. Bring them into Your kingdom so that they may find true peace. Bless all who faithfully serve You in every land and nation till the return of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, in Whose holy name, we pray. Amen.
