John 8:12 – When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." (NIV)

Lately, I have been disturbed time and time again by phone calls and e-mails that are in the category of an unnecessary nuisance. The caller offers a service, like cleaning ducts. (I live on the seventh floor, which should say it all.) Another one calls for the umpteenth time congratulating me that I have won a Bermuda vacation. Another says that I need to talk to them about my credit card. I found out that if you do, your account will be charged $800.00 for it. Calls supposedly from a popular airline or from Revenue Canada raise a red flag. On and on these scams and spams and schemes appear, one way or another. The callers are acting shrewdly in this world's light, driven from God's light into the realm of darkness.

Wistfully, we wonder if the day will ever come that no more evil will be done among humans. Why should we be surprised at it? There has never been such a time. Wrong has always taken place, with bitter darkness extinguishing the light. So many in the human race are in darkness, clearly and intently bent on deceiving anyone they can.

It's just like what the New Testament warns us about the rise of false prophets, teachers of error, twisters of truth, and wranglers of the Word of God in the last days. Clearly our fight is against the powers of darkness, and our armour is the light from God.

Ephesians 6:12 – For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. (NIV)

Isaiah 5:20 – Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter. (NIV)

Thanks be to God for His plan to bring salvation to the human beings that He created through His imperishable love. By the renewal of our minds, we will be able to test and approve what God's will is for us. His good will is not to harm us but to help us to be His people together, worshipping and loving God and each other.

Romans 12:2 – Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is — His good, pleasing and perfect will. (NIV)

Let us submit to the Lord's loving discipline, and allow His Spirit to guard us against sliding into slippery interpretations of His Word, and instead, to shape us according to His perfect will.

Prayer: Thank You, Father God for Your plan to save us from ourselves. Your plans will not hurt anyone turning to Jesus, Who paid the price for our sins. Thank You, Jesus, for being the way, the truth, and the life. May there be peace on earth and good will for men. May there be the salvation of souls presently in darkness. In Your holy name, we pray. Amen!
