Psalm 68:4 – Sing to God, sing in praise of his name, extol him who rides on the clouds; rejoice before him — his name is the Lord. (NIV 2011)

I would like to bring greetings from my "sick-bed" to all who know what that is about! Being an old one sometimes robs us of some privileges that we once took for granted.

This year, I have been registered with Brantford Lift, the city service to move people from door to door for medical appointments. Being a beginner, I did not understand all that it takes to run such a service. I had to learn by the errors that I made.

Overall, the service is friendly and compassionate. I am talked to like a somebody when I feel like a nobody with my chronic situation.

The first time around, I was busy observing how the system worked. After I was picked up, someone else was picked up before I was driven to my destination. Afterwards, I was picked up to get back home, and another person was added, and so forth. To my observation, the route that we travelled seemed to be going the wrong way. It also felt as if the vehicle had no springs whatsoever. Every hair-sized crack in the road made me glad that I was secured by the seatbelt and that I had an armrest to hold on to. I had never been to the parts of the city that we went through. The driver had suggested enjoying the ride, which I did — in prayer! There was so much to see of the city even with my failing vision — so many neighbourhoods and dwelling places for people to live in!

Taking in this experience, my head was whirling, and in no time, I compared it all to life and living, around my now-confined world.

How amazing it is that we get through our journey, with so many choices that are not for our best interest, as this world is filled with deceitful rides that look so good.

Spiritually speaking, are we on the right "vehicle" to our destiny? Jesus is the only way to the Father. Thanks be to the loving grace of God's mercy, that He calls us by our name, to come to a stop where He reveals to us His will, His way, and His purpose. His small voice reaches our deaf ears, which are opened to His Name. We can be still and give a listening ear to Him.

My prayer has been for the Lord's "vehicle" to pick up those most unlikely hearts in the most unlikely places for salvation, in the only name given, Jesus Christ, His only beloved Son!

The road of our Christian life might still be bumpy and noisy and painful, and go to places that we are unfamiliar with, but now, knowing that we have a Driver who knows how to get us safely through to our destination, we can enjoy the ride.

"I am coming home" becomes our song — "It is well with my soul".

Wherever we are in our "ride" in time, we can rejoice in all who ride with us in the faith and hope that "Only God can transform a sin-stained soul into a masterpiece of grace!"

Prayer: Father God, thank You for giving us a Saviour, Your Son, Jesus Christ, helping us through our ups and downs in this life, even when we feel defeated. Our ultimate victory is in You as we trust in Your presence and power and healing! In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen!
