I find myself putting in the time sitting on my recliner knitting more dolls. Even though I see double at times, each doll forms out properly — it is all from old know-how and memory.

I noticed that the clock on the wall was out of sync with the news on the television. The minute hand was frozen in one spot, but the second hand was still moving — stopping and then going. The clock was struggling to keep time, resulting in confusion. I realized that it was time once again to find a new battery, but I decided to do that later on. Even so, it bothered me not to have the right time before me, knowing that I would be off timing my day, things that I needed to do. The clock is my helper for the day's chores: ten minutes to boil an egg; an hour from now to have lunch, and so on. Time is an essential part of each day.

In spiritual matters, knowing the right time is also crucial — fully trusting God's timing. In our eyes, the clock that God uses is slowing down and powerless, showing the wrong time, and falling back. But God is not shorthanded in His time and in the grace that He shows towards His creation. The Creator of heaven and earth has the time scheduled for everything on earth and in heaven.

Ecclesiastes 3:1,11a – To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven. He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts. (NKJV)

Psalm 31:15a – My times are in Your hand. (NKJV)

At the right time, God sent His only beloved Son to bring salvation to the people for whom the time was dark in sin and wickedness.

Galatians 4:4 – But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law. (NKJV)

Looking up as instruments of righteousness, believers in Jesus can confidently trust that God's clock is keeping perfect time of everything under heaven and in every season. Not even Jesus knows the time of His own return:

Mark 13:32 – But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. (NKJV)

We might seek for another time and another way, but our heavenly Father knows best. And that is the only way to the truth and life eternal. In the meantime, we have a responsibility to make the best use of the time that we have left.

Ephesians 5:15-16 – See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. (NKJV)

Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for Your timing and Your way. Keep us firm in the faith that we have in Jesus, Your Son. In His name, we pray, praising You for the right time. Amen.
