Revelation 19:7,9a – "Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready." Then the angel said to me, "Write: 'Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!'" (NIV)

The dream seemed so real. Brilliant light flooded bright green trees and verdant grass. In the open air, a table covered with white linen stretched into eternity. Each place setting of fine bone china, crystal goblets, and shining, gold cutlery accompanied crystal vases filled with bouquets. In large, silver bowls was every kind of fruit imaginable: golden pears, deep-red apples, yellow bananas, oranges, kiwi, and bunches of grapes. The fragrance of fruit and flowers scented the air, making my mouth water. Bowls of steaming oatmeal with raisins were accompanied by pitchers of cold milk. Beside them, flagons of wine and crystal pitchers of juice sparkled in the sun. There were bowls of eggs, plates of pancakes, stacks of toast, shakers of cinnamon, and bowls of sugar, honey, jellies, and jams of every flavour … and so much more! I've never seen such a sumptuous feast in my life.

A Voice as deep as roaring ocean breakers spoke. "Come and eat. Taste and drink."

A fine, white garment dropped around me … so soft on my skin that it felt like cotton puffs, and it shone like silk. In joy and amazement, I turned to other people milling around me. But they turned away from the table, focused on conversation. Some argued. None heard the Voice.

I called to them, some by name, "Come, we've been invited to the breakfast banquet! Come! There's everything anyone could want. Come! The meal's waiting, and the food's steaming. Come! Let's not wait."

No one looked up or responded. Instead, each one stepped off in the opposite direction. Horrified, my tears streaming, I begged them, but none would come. As I turned toward the table, I felt warm, loving arms around my shoulders.

I awoke.

Jesus once told a parable recorded in Matthew 22:1-14 and Luke 14:15-24 about a king who gave a sumptuous wedding feast, but not one invited guest would come. All claimed a very busy life. Then he sent messengers out to bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame — anyone that they could find. The passage implies that the king gave a fine, white, linen robe to each society-reject who attended the feast intended for those who had spurned his generous love.

Our Lord and King invites each of us to come to the wedding banquet that He has prepared for His Son Jesus and His bride, the Church — those who love Him. His offer of grace amazes because those that He calls are the poor, crippled, blinded, and lame. We are they, and He's calling each of us, "Come and taste. See the banquet laid out for you. Take and eat. Come and drink from the cup of your salvation." My friends, why wait to answer Christ's call? He's calling each of us to His heavenly banquet table. Please, accept His free offer of grace. Please come … today!

Prayer: Lord Jesus, Your voice calls us to come and accept You as our Saviour. We accept. Wash us clean of all the things that we've done wrong. We receive You as our Saviour and the Lord of our life. Thank You for Your invitation to the heavenly banquet prepared for us. Amen.
