Revelation 19:10b – For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. (ESV)

Whenever my husband and I travel upstate to visit our son, we pass by a home that has a sign on the front lawn. In bold, red letters, it says, "Psychic Readings". Then underneath, it advertises, "$10 special". The sign always brings back memories of a time in my life when I would have eagerly gone in to have my fortune read. I imagine that the customers who frequent this type of business are a lot like I used to be before I gave my heart to the Lord. Many are searching for answers that will give them a sense of hope, especially in this world that we live in today.

God revealed Himself to me personally after I unexpectedly came across a Bible study program called "The King is Coming" telecast. This broadcast was based on the Book of Revelation and was taught by the late Howard C. Estep. Through his ministry, I became aware that Jesus not only had already guided me through the past and was with me in the present, but He also held my future in His hands. Essentially, everything that I needed to know for my life was contained in His Word.

Interestingly, Charles Spurgeon once said this about God:

He dwells in the present tense evermore as the great I AM. He knows what will be on the morrow, and He alone knows. The whole course of the universe lies before Him, like an open map. Men do not know what a day may bring forth, but Jehovah knows the end from the beginning. There are two great certainties about things that shall come to pass — one is that God knows, and the other is that we do not know.

These thoughts tie in perfectly with Jesus' testimony: "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am." (John 8:58 ESV) Isn't it comforting to know that the One who is the same yesterday, today, and always is guiding our future?

Jeremiah 29:11 – "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (NIV)

As the years go by, I am learning to trust in Jesus more and more every day: to walk by faith and not by sight. I've learned that the closer we are to Him, the more clearly we can see His divine blueprint for our lives. Hence, whatever the future holds, we see the days unfolding according to His good and perfect will.

Prayer: Sovereign Lord, we acknowledge that You are in control of all things, and as Your Word declares, only You know the end from the beginning. Help us to live in the present, to seek Your counsel daily, and to wait upon You to direct our paths. In Jesus' mighty name, we pray. Amen.
