Not too long ago, I was going through a very dry spell of not writing. I am a writer, and not being able to write is like losing my best friend in a dark, thick forest. As hard as I would try to find my friend, I just couldn't find her. I felt my stomach churn, and there was an emptiness that I couldn't explain.

I shared my experience with another writer and a reader, and they told me that they would pray for me. Of course, I wanted their prayers to work instantly, like a microwave oven, but they didn't.

I wondered what was wrong. Were my priorities all mixed up? Was I not taking enough time to pray and read God's Word? After all, I have been extremely busy being a caretaker for both my husband and my mother. Besides being a volunteer and driving to town four times a week, I was too busy to be alone with my Lord and to just talk with Him.

A lack of communication in a marriage, or at work, or with your children, can cause all sorts of problems.

It is the same with not communicating with God through His Word, prayer, or just listening. Not spending time with God can cause all sorts of problems. And that's when it hit me — right between the eyes! I was too busy to spend some time with my God.

Psalm 28:1 – To You, O Lord, I call; My rock, do not be deaf to me, for if You are silent to me, I will become like those who go down to the pit. (NASB)

The prayers of the other writer and the reader were answered. It was not too long after that that the Holy Spirit gave the inspiration and the words to write.

My friends, you may be going through a dry spell right now. Perhaps you are facing a hardship or going through a personal crisis. Remember that your heavenly Father is there for you. He will never leave you nor forsake you, and friends are willing to pray with you and for you.

Philippians 4:6 – Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. (NASB)

Prayer: Lord God, You know our weaknesses and our innermost thoughts. Help us to be consistent in talking to You moment by moment and delving into Your Word daily. Thank You for brothers and sisters in Christ who pray for us when we are unable to. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
