I can't believe the amount of rain that we have had in the last week. As I look out my window, the rain has left its mark. Tiny round circles are splattered against the pane, slightly obscuring my vision towards the lake.

My mother is a prophet of an oncoming thunder storm, blizzard, or rain. She tells me that she is able to predict this type of weather because her rheumatoid arthritis flares up and she has pain, like a toothache, in all her joints. I must have inherited that part of her genes, as I, too, get pain on either side of my knees sometimes. Today, my left knee is aching, restricting me from doing various jobs around the house, and I have a choice to be still and take some time to be quiet, pray, and read. And then, the phone rings, and I am distracted again.

Why is our time spent with God never on our priority list?

Yet, we were on God's priority list. God sent His one and only Son, Jesus, to sacrifice His life for us so that we may have eternal life with Him.

John 3:16 – For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. (NLT)

God promises that He will never leave us nor forsake us, and He waits patiently for us to return to Him. Sometimes, He will gently remind us by using a fellow writer's words and experiences in the devotionals written, or sometimes, He will allow rainy weather in order to tell us that He misses our quiet time with Him.

Isaiah 30:15 – This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: "Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength. But you would have none of it." (NLT)

Today, will you set aside a quiet time and spend some precious moments with your Creator?

Prayer: Lord, God, You allow things in our lives in order to bring us back to You. We thank you for those little nudges that You send, whether they are via devotionals, rainy days, or toothache pain. Amen.
