Some days when I am busy baking, I switch on the television to keep me company. One of the shows that I view from time to time is The Price is Right. In fact, I remember watching it with my grandmother when I was a youngster. It seemed to be as popular then as it is now so many years later. Contestants are called down from the audience to bid on an item. The one closest to the actual value of the prize wins that prize and then proceeds to the stage to play a game with yet another prize or series of prizes. Contestants who have won their way onto the platform also have a chance to spin the big wheel for the opportunity to bid on a final prize package worth thousands of dollars. Everybody loves the game because it is an opportunity to receive good things for nothing. And who among us doesn't love to get something good or wonderful for free?

And yet, we live in a world where more and more people are refusing, turning away from, even forsaking the most wonderful free gift of all: life eternal in Christ Jesus, a life which promises and delivers on the marvellous gifts of inner peace, strength for everyday living no matter what each day may bring, unconditional love and acceptance, power to live the kind of life that is a blessing to both ourselves and others, companionship with God our heavenly Father, wisdom, patience, joy, gentleness, self control, purpose with a passion, and an identity which doesn't depend upon what others may think of us or upon our past failures. But still, people turn away; they refuse to consider and accept the most wonderful gift of all. Why? Perhaps this is a question which we all need to be asking ourselves on a daily basis. People flock to The Price is Right, so why aren't they flocking to Jesus? At one time they did, but why not now?

Perhaps it is because they aren't seeing those who do follow Jesus as winners: winners who radiate the joy of the precious treasure of light and power within them; people who exhibit through the way they live their lives, the gifts of eternal life which are ours if we would only have the faith and courage to grasp hold of them and apply them to our everyday existence. Perhaps when enough of us begin to embrace not only our salvation in Christ but also the power which is ours to live the Christian life in all its splendour and glory, others will once again come on down and begin flocking back to Jesus.

Prayer: Father God, breathe anew upon Your Church. Fill us with amazing grace and power to have the hope and faith, discipline and endurance to grasp the Christian life in all its glory. Teach us to live our lives as You once lived Your life. Bless us to be truly Christian, that many worldwide will once again flock to Jesus and embrace His gift of eternal life. In His name, we pray. Amen.
