Isaiah 65:24 – Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking, I will hear. (NIV)

I have always believed this promise, simply because it is the Word of God. However, when it started becoming real in my life in a practical way, almost as a weekly occurrence, I was totally blown away. His promise moved from my head to my heart.

I needed an e-mail address, but I could not find the business card that had it. I spent half a day searching every room, but to no avail. As the day drew to a close, as a last, desperate measure, I said, "Lord, You know I need this address, and You know where the business card is, so I'm leaving it in Your hands." On my way to bed, I filled my water glass and placed it on my bedside table, directly onto the lost business card! I was sure that I had looked on that table. As I murmured a sheepish "Thank You, Lord", I wondered why I hadn't asked Him to show me where it was in the first place.

I had misplaced my credit card. This time I asked God before I started my search. I refused to get upset, but I felt that my part was to search; it was God's part to locate the card. Finally, as I prepared for bed, I told Him that I needed to call the credit card company and report it missing. On the way, I picked up a pair of shorts to put into the washing machine. As I methodically cleaned out the pockets, my hand hit the elusive credit card amidst a pile of crumpled tissues. When I quit my futile search and left it with Him, He honoured my trust.

Many would say that these are just coincidences. If they had occurred only once or twice, I would agree, but lately I have been literally inundated with these so-called happenstances, and they come to pass so quickly after I ask, and in some cases, even before I ask. I am left in awe as I rejoice and thank Him for His faithfulness.

My computer would not print, so I decided to contact the head of our computer club to see if he could help me. I was about to dial his phone number when I heard the doorbell ring. I was waiting for a call back about a movie that I had selected to buy online which did not play. At the door was a chap from my Internet provider who was in the area, so he just dropped in. He assured me that he would arrange for the movie to download that evening. I mentioned my computer problem, and within minutes, he had resolved it. I felt almost stunned at the speed that God had answered.

Just one more incident. I couldn't find my car key. I looked everywhere, and then said, "Here I go again, Lord. Please show me where my car key is tonight, because I have an early morning appointment." After washing up before I retired, I was drying my face when my eyes lit on a pair of shorts hanging inside the bathroom door that I didn't remember wearing. Yes! The key was there in the pocket. Once again, our omniscient, living, loving God had honoured the prayer of one of His children. Praise Your name, my Lord!

Do these rather peculiar accounts happen to resonate with any of my readers? The exciting truth is that our Father is a God of the small things, as well as the large things, and He takes delight in showing us that fact over and over again. As an experiment, see how often similar happenings occur in your life during the next month. Just don't forget to ask before you let lost things get the better of you.

Prayer: Father, You are so faithful, and You understand the frustrations of fading memories. Help us to trust Your Word when You tell us that before we call, You will answer. Thank You, in Jesus' name. Amen.
