It has been quite a few years since I became aware of a much-needed change in my life. When I think back to how I behaved and treated some people, I am conscious of how much I have changed since I first accepted Jesus to be my Lord and the Saviour of my life.

I have done things in my past that I am not proud of. I have hurt people with my actions and words. I have lied, not only to myself, but to others when I was confronted with something. I found pleasure in drinking, not only just one glass of wine, but quite a few glasses. There were times when I couldn't remember how I got home. I remember fighting and quarrelling with my husband and throwing his clothes outside and telling him to leave. When I'd had a few drinks, everything seemed so exaggerated.

When I think back to those times, it was almost like I was in a fog, searching for some light in my life, looking for something to fill the void that was within.

It was a friend's reaction to a situation that started me asking questions about how she could be so calm and collected. Her response, at that time, was that it was Jesus in her heart that helped her to stay cool and keep things together. And that's exactly what I wanted: peace. That night, I prayed for Jesus to work a miracle in my life, and He did.

Ephesians 5:8-14 – For once you were darkness, but now in the Lord you are light. Live as children of light — for the fruit of the light is found in all that is good and right and true. Try to find out what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to mention what such people do secretly; but everything exposed by the light becomes visible, for everything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, "Sleeper, awake! Rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you." (NRSV)

Many years have passed, and I have never regretted the decision in asking Jesus to be Lord and Saviour of my life. My life has highs and also lows, but my relationship with Him is a wonderful journey of daily learning and serving.

Today, if you find yourself searching for something in order to fill that void within, try reaching out to the One Who loves you unconditionally. No matter what you have done in the past, Jesus has forgiven you. Your wrong choices were nailed to the cross with Him. "Rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you!"

Prayer: Father, we thank You for sacrificing Your Son to die on the cross for us, so that we may arise from death to new life. Amen.
