I have a beautiful view of Penetanguishene Bay from my front living room window. At night, I can see the tall Catholic Church building that stands like a citadel across the bay. The lit houses that surround it make it look like a giant, shiny, gold chain resembling a necklace. The lights shining in the individual houses along the bay's shore cast a colourful reflection that looks like coloured icicles shimmering on the water. It is indeed a beautiful sight!

This scene made me think of how we Christians are to be like shiny, bright lights in this world.

Philippians 2:14-15 – Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people. (NLT)

We are to be those lights shining in someone's life of darkness, whether it be the loss of a loved one, a sickness that they are battling, a deep hurt, or loneliness. We are to be those lights in a dark world of power-hungry people and things that have been hidden, by exposing the wrong and standing up for what is right. We are to be those lights reflecting and proclaiming Christ's love and hope to all people who are lost and searching.

Matthew 4:16 – The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light. And for those who lived in the land where death casts its shadow, a light has shined. (NLT)

Jesus is our only hope in this world of darkness.

John 8:12 – Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, "I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life." (NLT)

Prayer: Almighty God, equip us and use us for Your good purpose. Help us to be Your bright and shining lights. Give us the strength and courage to stand up for what is true and right and to share Your words of hope, love, and forgiveness to a world enveloped in darkness and turmoil. Amen.
