Genesis 1:14-15 – Then God said, "Let lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night. Let them be signs to mark the seasons, days, and years. Let these lights in the sky shine down on the earth." And that is what happened. (NLT)

One Saturday morning, a group of like-minded friends decided to attend a session with a colour analyst to "get our colours done". The most well-known approach to analyzing personal colouring is "seasonal" colour analysis, which places individual colouring into four general categories: winter, spring, summer, and autumn.

The analyst used pieces of cloth in various colours, which she draped around the shoulders of each individual. It soon became evident which colours looked the best. Each of us received a packet of swatches of cloth with our colours. We were encouraged to refer to them when we shopped for clothes and/or makeup.

There is evidence that the colours people wear can affect how others perceive them. Let's look at the meaning of colours and their distinguishing attributes:

• Cool colours include green, blue, and violet, and they give a calming, comforting and nurturing effect. As Christians, when others are stressed out, we need to bring balance and stability into their lives, as we learn to trust God to be in control.
• Warm colours include red, orange, and yellow. These colours are active, attention-grabbing, and aggressive, radiating love, passion, heat, power, happiness, and joy. As Christians, we need to avoid being cold in our relationships with others, but rather displaying warmth and compassion, energizing others towards good deeds and a holy lifestyle.
• Complementary colours, like red and turquoise, blue and orange, complete each other and bring out the attributes of each other. Using complementary colours in an image is quite pleasing to the eye. It's a well-known fact that in marriages, opposites attract. Husbands and wives need to learn how their opposites are complementary and complete each other, and make the most of their differences.
• Colour harmony is created when the colours seem to belong together, using contrasts which intensify each other. In the body of Christ, all the members are different, yet we can learn to maintain harmony with each other.

Colossians 3:12,14 – Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. (NIV)

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the myriad of colours which we enjoy every day. May others be able to see the colours of warmth and compassion which we, as Christians, seek to portray in our lives. Increase our individual attractiveness as we display our colours to others. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
