Psalm 108:1 – My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make melody. Awake my soul! (NRSV)

My daughter gives music lessons. I watch the children come for their lessons with mom or dad, the little feet eagerly stepping in; some come running to the door. I hear the little hands on the keys getting a song together. Whether the children come shyly or lively, laughter breaks out at times when a piece gets mixed up. I recognize many of the pieces and can't wait to hear the whole melody to the end.

The music I hear causes this old heart to rejoice. My prayer is that these future pianists, guitarists, and singers will make melody to the Lord and bless those around them with a new song, and that music in praise of God will never die or be silenced.

God's people sing. Psalms were meant to be sung. Heaven sings and makes music. The righteous sing and rejoice. They break into singing and exult over God with loud song. They sing to God with their spirits and with their minds also. The time of singing has come. Choir practice is on, in preparation for the everlasting sounds of new stanzas.

It lifts my soul to hear a congregation in song. My daughter is a church choir director, and together, they make beautiful music. We can all be assured that our voices are pleasant to God when we sing His praises together regularly. Give an ear next time, and hear what I mean! God is listening to your sweet voice, among many.

There is music in the air. You in the dust, awake and sing. Tongue of the dumb, sing for joy. Sing to stringed instruments. Sing to the Lord a new song.

We worship the Lord with our hymns of praise and thanksgiving. Church music rises heavenward to God our strength!

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus! We have just begun to sing praises to the Lord, who has done glorious things.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the musicians and singers who make music for Your people on earth. Be with Your servants with their special talents, and bring us the hope of the perfection that will be ours when we stand before Your throne and sing praises to Your holy majesty, in the name of Jesus. Amen.
