My friend and I had quite a conversation the other day. I remember her saying, "There is absolutely no way that I am going to do this! No way!" To which, without thinking, I replied, "Ya way!" What I meant to say was "Yes way!" We both looked at each other and realized what had come out of my mouth: I had spoken aloud the proper name of God in the Old Testament without realizing it.

"Yahweh" is the name of the Hebrew God, represented in Hebrew by the tetragrammaton (the four letters Yod Heh Vav Heh, transliterated into Roman script as Y H W H). It was only written and never spoken, because it was considered blasphemous to utter the name of God.

I did not get hit with a lightning bolt, but my outburst made me realize that when things look hopeless, Jesus says, "Yes way!"

2 Corinthians 1:20 – Christ says "Yes" to all of God's promises. That's why we have Christ to say "Amen" for us to the glory of God. (CEV)

Just look at the hopeless news: government corruption; civil unrest, uproar, and fighting in the Middle East; gang rapes and murders; random automatic rifle massacres; economic downturn and unemployment on the rise; and life-threatening weather patterns that seem to plague our world. It seems that the whole world is in chaos with no hope in sight.

1 Peter 1:3-6 – Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. (NIV 2011)

It is at times like these when we need to put our trust in our Creator and believe that He is still in control, even though it looks like everything is out of control.

Matthew 19:26 – Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." (NIV)

Prayer: God of the universe, Creator of all that is seen and unseen, we humbly ask You to grant us Your peace when things look hopeless. When we say, "No way", You say, "Yes way". You are able to bring about peace in a world that seems to be in a state of chaos. You are our hope. Amen.
