Exodus 40:4-7 – Bring in the table and set out what belongs on it. Then bring in the lampstand and set up its lamps. Place the gold altar of incense in front of the ark of the Testimony and put the curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle. Place the altar of burnt offering in front of the entrance to the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting; place the basin between the Tent of Meeting and the altar and put water in it. (NIV)

When my daughter married a man from Great Britain, it became obvious that she would soon be living there. The huge number of things that she had to do just to gain the visa was mind-boggling. She paid great attention to every detail and jumped through numerous bureaucratic hoops simply because she loved her husband and wanted to be with him. She worked exceedingly hard so that they could be reunited.

Similarly, God goes to amazing lengths to show us His love, concerning Himself with even the smallest details of our human lives. For example, this week, on my yearly read-through of the Bible, as I read today's Scripture passage, God's caring leapt out as I realized that He paid attention to little details like the placement of the menorah and a basin of water when they set up the tabernacle.

It seems to me that if God cares enough to specify this, then He certainly cares about the little things, and the large things, in our lives. Our God is no far-off, uncaring deity who set the planet spinning on its axis and then forgot about the people on it. God cares enough to ensure that we will be with Him throughout all eternity. He even told us His plan through numerous prophecies, such as this one:

Isaiah 53:3-5,11-12 – He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. After the suffering of his soul, he will see the light of life and be satisfied; by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities. Therefore I will give him a portion among the great … because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. (NIV)

Through Christ's death on the cross and resurrection from the grave, God did everything necessary to provide forgiveness for those who believe in Him so that they could live forever. All we need to receive this is to offer a heartfelt prayer similar to the following one:

Prayer: Loving God, I come in Jesus' name acknowledging that I have fallen short of Your loving standards for living the best possible life. I ask for forgiveness for my rebelliousness, shortcomings, and sins. I believe that Jesus made a way for me to come to You when He died and rose again. I ask now for His Spirit to live and rule in my life. Amen.
