Mark 6:6-7a – And [Jesus] was amazed at their lack of faith. Then Jesus went round teaching from village to village. Calling the Twelve to him, he sent them out two by two. (NIV)

This morning, I awoke with a song ringing through my head, and it is still ringing in my ears. It is speaking to me with force, as in a few weeks, my friend and I will actually be walking where Jesus walked. Yes, we are going on a cruise to the Mediterranean and the Holy Land. Here is the song:

I walked today where Jesus walked,
In days of long ago.
I wandered down each path He knew,
With reverent step and slow.
Those little lanes, they have not changed,
A sweet peace fills the air.
I walked today where Jesus walked,
And felt Him close to me.

– Geoffrey O'Hara

What will it be like to walk where Jesus walked? Those who have been blessed to visit Bethlehem and Jerusalem know what it is like. Will there be peace there? Will there be violence? All I really know is that there will be peace and joy in my heart!

Years ago, when I was charged by the Mission Board to start a new church, I used to walk along the streets in the community, accompanied by my dog Mini, yes, exercising! But there was another real purpose: I would pray for the occupants of each house as we walked by. On the next Sunday, there would be several new people in church. My prayer was answered, and God was building His church.

Jesus walked everywhere — there were no cars back then. As He walked the roads of a new community, however, He taught His disciples through what He said and did. It was a hands-on lesson doing ministry in Jesus' name. Today, Jesus still shows us how, as we go from door to door, and I am sure that He will still be amazed at our lack of faith. Read today's Scripture again:

Mark 6:6-7a – And [Jesus] was amazed at their lack of faith. Then Jesus went round teaching from village to village. Calling the Twelve to him, he sent them out two by two. (NIV)

The disciples had a lot to learn, and so do we. Our road may be strange and difficult, but with Jesus' walking with us, amazing doors will open.

Soon, I will actually be walking in Jesus' hometown. What will He show me? I look forward to receiving Jesus' directions each day.

Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for staying close by us today. May we feel the nudges, the curiosity beckoning us, the interest quickening our imagination and actions as Your love fills every situation. May You reveal to our souls Your will and purpose for us today, as we walk the roads of our own town with faith in You. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
