1 Corinthians 12:27 – Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. (NRSV)

The human body is made for the eyes, and the eyes are made for the body. One without the other would not function fully.

My old body is feeling its age. The ribs and hips and joints are having an organ recital off and on. They are talking with the rest about holding on and keeping it together.

They have all made a valuable contribution all these years. It has become clear that the time is coming when they will stop functioning and retire in one accord.

Paul wrote a lot about the church as the body of Christ. The uses of all the joints and different members within the body are an important analogy of church.

Our joy is to belong to the body of Christ, the church, the church that takes directions from the head, Christ Jesus.

We do well to carry the concerns of the failing individual members of the body to the Head, fixing our eyes on Jesus.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for being the Head of the body, Your church. Keep the members of Your church in healthy respect of each other. Unify all of us to be stronger members in Your body. Amen.
