Not too long ago, I wrote about my husband having a mini-stroke during surgery on his carotid artery.

I was overwhelmed at the e-mail responses I received. To see such tremendous support from writers and readers alike brought a thankful heart and tears to my eyes.

It was through this love in action that God showed me that I was not alone. I received e-mails from people who told me that both my husband and I were in their prayers. I received e-mails from people who told me to hang on and who gave me the encouragement to go on. I received e-mails from people who quoted Scripture and promised that they would uphold my husband in prayer and ask God for complete healing.

God works through His children. We are God's voice to share words of comfort and encouragement with those who need hope. We are God's hands and feet to offer a helping hand and visit those in need.

1 Thessalonians 5:11a,14b,15b – Encourage one another, and build up one another. Encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, and be patient with all men. Always seek after that which is good for one another and for all men. (NASB)

If we know of someone who needs a listening ear, let's go and visit them. If we know of someone who needs help with housework or shopping, let's offer to lend a hand. If we know of help from local government agencies that a needy friend is not making use of, let's offer to call on our friend's behalf and explain the situation. Isn't it wonderful to know that there is a loving God who works continuously through others to comfort us and remind us that we are not alone!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for strangers who bring words of healing at a time when we need it the most. Open our eyes and ears so that we may be able to reach out to hurting people with words of comfort and words of encouragement. Amen.
