Acts 2:1-4 – When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. (NIV)

I love the wind. I love to watch the way it can transform a quiet sea into a sloshing, tossing world of change. I am awed by its power and unpredictability. I am amazed how it stirs the trees to dance with abandonment and whips the dust into a whirling fiend. I associate wind with change.

On the day of Pentecost, the wind of God's Holy Spirit brought change into the lives of the disciples. The power of the Spirit came upon them and they were never again the same. They were transformed from a group of men who were sitting around the house waiting, into a passionate band of active disciples of Christ who changed the world.

How might the wind of God want to stir up our life this day? How might the power of His Spirit desire to transform our ordinary routine into the extraordinary? How might we dance with the abandonment of praise or be whipped into a passion of life-changing prayer for the souls of others, if only we, like the disciples, would choose to make and take the time to be quiet before the Lord this day, that His wind of transformation may blow upon us?

Prayer: Father God, You are the God of transformation. Transform us this day through the power of Your Holy Spirit, that the world may continue to be changed for Christ, through Your life-giving power within us. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
