Life can feel like a thrilling roller-coaster ride. A day can be filled with "scream-provoking" or "fear-filled" moments that overwhelm us by their intensity, or they can be mere side-show distractions that draw our attention and keep our mind focused on trivialities, rather on a true, meaningful purpose for our day. Step-by-step or thought-by-thought, we can reach the end of our day feeling exhausted and dissatisfied, because our attention and energy has been depleted by all the "stuff" we allowed to distract us.

Jesus seeks to have us focus on Him, to believe on Him, and to rest in Him, so that we will find perfect peace. Yet it can be so much easier to stay where we are, even though it might be uncomfortable. We tend to hang onto what is familiar because it is in our "comfort zone", even when it is detrimental to our well-being.

People or situations can be a source of danger if we do not remain vigilant, so we need to be gainfully employed — in body, soul, mind, and spirit. We should not give in to despair or temptation. Only then can we be refreshed and comforted by God's grace and love.

Hebrews 4:11 – Let us try as hard as we can to enter God's rest so that no one will fail by following the example of those who refused to obey. (NCV)

Prayer: Father, help us to focus on You and Your Word, instead of allowing the empty merry-go-round of the world to hold us captive. May we be enticed by all that You have for us. Keep us from resorting to worldly values as we progress through each day. May we rest in Your tender care and follow Your guidance in all we do. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
