– Mary E. Maxwell

Since I retired, I have become an amateur computer techie. After learning how to use the computer, taking all the basic classes offered at the local city college, I launched out into computer design. When we were starting to program movies into our scripts, I bowed out. The younger students were so quick and adept at their craft. So for the last several years, I have been satisfied with the knowledge I had acquired.

That was then — this is now! Along came the iPod®! My nieces and nephews are all into these technical gadgets. I finally succumbed to the modern technology, and I'm now a proud owner of one such gadget. I take the iPod with me when I'm at meals in the dining room, and in the sitting areas of my retirement home. I have loaded mostly Christian music.

Now, this is where the story gets interesting. To my amazement, I have had many opportunities to share my music with young and old alike. The most interesting occasion was in the lobby one evening. I assisted a woman of advanced age, who has been a Christian for a long time, to listen to some of the classic Gospel hymns. All of a sudden, she took to singing, trying to remember the words, her eyes full of joy. Soon there were several others who gathered around to listen and sing as well. This technological wonder was bridging the gap from one age to another, yet retaining the Gospel message!

If the iPod can be used to be a channel for spreading the Gospel, would there be other technologies and methods in this modern age that can be used? Our challenge today can be stated in the words of the apostle Paul:

1 Corinthians 9:22b – I have become all things to all men so by all possible means I might save some. (NIV)

Prayer: Father, we thank You for all the technologies You have provided for us. Show us how we can best use them for Your glory. In Jesus' holy name, we pray. Amen.
