Luke 15:4 – Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? (NIV)

With maps and computers and cellular telephone applications, finding our way has become increasingly easy. We hardly ever see anyone stopping another person on the street to ask directions. We are getting quite good at navigating ourselves from one place to another. Occasionally, though, we must seek direction from another person. Recently, someone called me to seek directions, as he was nearing his destination but was unable to find the road that he needed. By the time he contacted me, he had gone past the road that he needed to find in order to arrive at his destination. After having him turn around, I began to give him directions from my experience of driving to that location. As he began to follow my prompts, he was also sharing what he was seeing: landmarks and small sign markings along the way. A few minutes later, he arrived in the driveway he was seeking. As we began to talk about his drive, I shared that I had not been aware of some of the markings that he mentioned as he was telling me what he was seeing along the way. As I left later that day and drove this route again, I did see what he had seen.

Philemon 1:6 – I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ. (NIV)

Just as my friend sought directions that day, before I accepted Jesus, I was also seeking a direction in my life. Now that I am secure in His love, I am to go out into the world and seek the lost and bring a message of hope and salvation to others. A map or computer application is not needed for us to do this. We simply need to walk in the freedom and forgiveness that has been granted to us, so that others may seek and want this themselves.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You that You came to a lost and hurting world, and brought hope, life, and salvation for us. Help us to continue the work that You began. Instill a renewed desire within our hearts today for this mission. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
