Luke 15:20 – He got right up and went home to his father. When he was still a long way off, his father saw him. His heart pounding, he ran out, embraced him, and kissed him. (MSG)

We have a kitten in our home now. Her name is Sassy. She came to live with us last fall when she was three months old. She is a Siamese cat, who attached herself to me almost immediately. She follows me everywhere I go, curls up with me when I am reading, and sleeps by my feet at night. Because she was a kitten and winter was just around the corner, I never let her outside until this spring.

She was doing really well, staying close to home and coming in towards evening. But alas! One day, she never came home. I searched and searched for her around the neighbourhood but never found her. I went to bed, praying for Sassy to be safe and to come home. In the morning, she still had not returned. As the day progressed, I became more and more concerned about her, crying out to God for her to come home.

In the late afternoon, I heard a cat meowing outside, so I ran to the window, and sure enough, there was Sassy. I opened the door and welcomed her home. I snuggled her in my arms, rubbed her, and talked to her. I was so glad to see her.

That is so much like the father in the story of the prodigal son in Luke 15. That father represents our heavenly Father. How thankful I am that He welcomes us home when we return after we have strayed. He is waiting, anxious to hold us in His arms once again.

Prayer: Thank You, Father, that You watch over us. You know when we have gone astray, and You are waiting anxiously for us to return to You. Thank You. Thank You. Thank You. Amen.
