A minor fender bender seven months ago recently found me standing before the judge in a courtroom. Prepared with the evidence to support my case, I stood before the man who would decide the outcome.

As it turned out, it really did not matter what I had brought to the courtroom in the new red folder, as he asked me only one question: "How do you plead — guilty or not guilty?" Oh! How I wanted to say "Guilty, with an explanation", but I simply stated, "Guilty, your honour."

There I stood, all alone in a packed courtroom, with others waiting their turn to state their case before the man who would pass judgement. I knew that many were praying for me during this time, for I felt a peace inside. The outcome was good as he did listen as I presented my case. The charges were changed and the fine was dramatically reduced to reflect my explanation.

There will come another day when I will stand before the Judge of all the earth, only this time, He will already know my explanations. I will not be alone this time either, as the One who went to the cross for my sins will be sitting at the right hand of God as my Advocate. Will I still feel the need to add explanations after my plea? Are there things in my life such as my words and actions that I can change now before that Day? We never know when that Day will come. Oh! How I want to hear those wonderful words, "Well done, good and faithful servant."

Matthew 12:36 – And I tell you this, that you must give an account on judgment day of every idle word you speak. (NLT)

Prayer: Dear Lord, we praise and thank You that You are always with us. Help us each to live a life that is holy and pleasing to You. Help us to be more aware of our words and actions, remembering that we will have to give an account of them to You. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
