Proverbs 25:14 – Like clouds and wind without rain is a man who boasts of gifts he does not give. (NIV)

It had been a long, dry summer. The crops were parched in the fields. The grass, on which the cattle grazed, was brown and dry. A few more days and it would be gone. What would happen to our cattle and our crops then?

As a cloud formed in the sky, we stood watching. A wind came up. We stood in anticipation until the wind blew the cloud away. We knew there would be no rain today.

Does God feel the same way when His people, called by His name, do not come through with actions to carry out His plans?

We know what needs to be done. We intend to do it, but something comes up at the last minute, and our plans, like the clouds, drift away — and the necessary work is not done.

There's a drought in our world today. Hungry and parched souls are waiting for the message of salvation and the invitation to come into His kingdom. These people are thirsty for the flowing water of the Spirit and they are hungry for the food of the Spirit that can nourish their souls and add quality to their lives.

The powers of communication are available today as never before to bring the "rain of the Spirit" and the "food of the soul" to others today. Will we use these means to communicate the spiritual food and water that others need today, or will we boast of the gifts we could have given, but did not?

Prayer: Lord, we, Your people, possess the power to be channels that You can use to change the lives of others. If only we used the gifts that are available to us today to spread Your Word. Motivate us, wake us up, and get us moving out beyond the walls of our churches today to spread Your message. Amen.
